High Shot
When things on the ground are heating up, the clever media operators assure themselves of the best vantage point. Whether over tennis, golf or riding tournaments, or major open-air concerts - all of them, of course, events which must never be disturbed by the noise of aero engines - aerial photography is the factor which supplies the shots that impress TV viewers. This was the background to WDL's development of a radically new system which can be flexibly deployed with only a minimal ground footprint but nonetheless permits perfect aerial images of top TV broadcasting quality in total silence: the High Shot©.
The High Shot© system consists of a 17-meter-long unmanned helium-filled tethered balloon that carries a gyrostabilized high-resolution camera to altitudes of up to 100 meters. The camera has a 360° rotation range and can move to any viewing angle. Camera image remains totally stable and focused even for extreme zoom shots, and is relayed with zero signal loss via a fiber-optics cable to the ground station, an outside-broadcast vehicle - included in the High Shot© system package - which functions simultaneously as the control and transmission center. The image is then passed on to the transmitter vehicle, usually, again, via a cable, although microwave relay is an additional option.
When used on this mission, the airship is not, of course, merely a camera mount, it also remains a potent advertising vehicle - application of a logo to the airship envelope opens up important synergy possibilities, giving spectators the best view of all of the message floating above them in the sky.

And major events are by no means the only conceivable missions - the High Shot© Broadcast System is also eminently suitable for military and civil surveillance tasks, permitting real-time reaction to observations, data transmission and data compilation (for subsequent centralized or deferred evaluation) in the context of border, port and site security - in this case with airborne platforms that can be kept discreetly invisible from the ground.
